Welcome to Biology

It’s alive!

Three months ago, a profound discovery was made in the form of a mummified dinosaur revealing anatomical details never before seen by paleontologists.  Skin, scales, foot pads, even what it ate moments before it died had been preserved for 60 million years.   Last month, our ninth grade Biology students discovered that one of the single greatest threats to our environment was a seemingly harmless looking algae by the name of Calerpa taxifolia, affectionately named “The Green Menace”.  This morning, scientists admitted that the artic icepacks will be gone by 2012.  The implications of this statement are somewhat disturbing to say the least.  Science is a fluid and dynamic subject that is being rewritten and enhanced on a daily basis.

This idea best describes the science component of your son or daughter’s educational experience in the ninth grade.  We are dedicated to making it a truly memorable and enriching one.  Over the course of the school year, your science student will venture into regions of the biological realm they did not know existed.

Students are given the tools to develop a keener sense of inquiry, to challenge and confront a broad range of environmental or health related issues. Borrowing heavily from the integrated teaching methodologies of the International Baccalaureate program, students learn to take a global perspective on science issues ranging from mummified dinosaurs to the impact of invasive species on the food chain.
