Plume feathers filled the Venetian Ballroom at The Breakers, Palm Beach, February 11th, as more than 350 PBDA trustees, parents, alumni, past parents, grandparents, and special friends attended the Pelican and Flamingo Feather Ball. Chaired by current PBDA parents Gita Costa, Carrie Murray, Nancy Sambuco, and Missy Savage, this year’s much anticipated signature fundraising event celebrated and embraced the core foundations of PBDA: education, family and tradition. The event was generously sponsored for the 9th consecutive year by Margaritaville.
  Guests were first ushered into the Mediterranean Ballroom, designed and decorated by Lily Holt of Bruce Sutka International Design, to resemble a bird sanctuary in keeping with the event theme. More than 350 Silent Auction items, donated by PBDA supporters, families, and faculty, kept guests very busy, as bidding activity placed through an enhanced handheld bidding device allowed guests to move freely through the room, engaging with old friends and making new friends while keeping close watch on their favorite auction items. Among the most sought after silent auction items each year are items generously donated by PBDA Faculty.
  The night continued with the highlight of the evening: the live auction, followed by a spectacular dinner, and an evening of dancing. Master of ceremonies, faculty member, parent, and alumna Jan-Marie Cook was masterful as the event auctioneer. Her love for the school and community added a genuine charm to the live auction portion of the evening, where priceless items, exotic trips, sporting events, and once in a lifetime opportunities helped contribute to the overall netting of more than $500,000 for the school. A “Call to the Heart” request supporting Educational Initiatives was announced by PBDA parent and PSC President Robert Norberg, and closed out the evening’s fundraising activities.  
  More than 60 Auction Committee members worked tirelessly in the months before the event planning all aspects of the evening, creating class projects, collecting auction items, helping with décor and invitations, setting up the event, and much more. Another 60 plus volunteer PBDA Faculty members were on site throughout Saturday evening to handle everything from the registration process and bidding devices to ensuring a smooth “check-out” process as guests collected their valuable winnings.
  All of this was preceded on January 19, with the pre-auction party at the lovely home of Margaret and John Thornton where the class projects were auctioned and silent auction items were gathered. John Pickett served as auctioneer and helped the students raise more than $50,000 through the sale of their creative artwork and class books. Throughout the auction season, the extended family and faculty of PBDA have shown their generosity with their time and money. The Auction Co-Chairs join the school administration and the development team of Kathleen Emmett, Sara Robinson, Paula Martin, and Anita Nida in thanking everyone.
